Occupational and Environmental Health ProgramThe Gage Occupational and Environmental Health Unit (GOEHU) is a collaboration between the Departments of Public Health Sciences and the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at St. Michael’s Hospital. GOEHU has been offering professional and research training in occupational and environmental health through the Department of Public Health Sciences since 1978. The MPH* program in the occupational and environmental field provides professional training to those seeking a career in occupational hygiene. GOEHU also acts as the academic home for the Centre for Research Expertise in Occupational Disease (CREOD), which allows the opportunity to provide research practica for students choosing the research option in the MPH* program. The focus of the CREOD is on occupational respiratory and skin disease and hand–arm vibration syndrome. However, research practica are offered in areas other than these, most notably, biohazards, health effects of air pollution, and occupational cancer. Professional training in occupational medicine is provided through a Residency program offered jointly with the Department of Medicine and located at St. Michael’s Hospital. A Diploma program is also offered for those wishing to upgrade their qualifications in occupational health. *known as the MHSc degree prior to September 1, 2009. |
