MPH* Community Nutrition Specialization

Practicum

There are two required community practica, each lasting approximately 12 weeks. The first takes place during the summer following year one and the second is during the winter of year two. The second practicum is optional for students who are registered dietitians. Students seeking dietetics licensure must also complete a six week clinical practicum.

Faculty collaborate with students to identify specific learning needs, options for practicum settings, and aid students in finding appropriate field advisors. Many students are placed in public health departments, community health centre’s, not-for-profit agencies, the food industry, hospital outpatient settings and other ambulatory care agencies.

Other Information

Employment Prospects

Graduates are employed as nutritionists and consultants in public health departments, and local, provincial and federal levels of government. They are also employed by community health centres, voluntary organizations and the food industry.

Doctoral Studies in Community Nutrition

The masters program does not require students to complete a thesis; however, students have the opportunity to complete research practica and research papers, and are eligible for most PhD programs. Applicants interested in pursuing doctoral studies should familiarize themselves with the specific admission requirements of doctoral programs.
