The Ontario HIV Epidemiologic Monitoring Unit provides in-depth, timely reports characterizing the evolving HIV epidemic in the province. Surveillance reports include data and, in most cases, statistical models which combine data from multiple sources to better characterize the Ontario epidemic. Each year, the Unit produces an annual surveillance report including data on HIV diagnoses, AIDS, HIV-related mortality and the results of statistical modelling.

In addition to the surveillance reports, the Unit also produces from time to time special situation reports focusing on specific populations affected by the epidemic in response to evolving situations. The Unit also undertakes original research, usually using available data.

The Unit collaborates closely with the HIV Laboratory, Laboratories Branch, the AIDS Bureau and the Public Health Division, all of the OMHLTC; Ontario region, Canadian Pediatric AIDS Research Group; and the HIV Social, Behavioural and Epidemiological Studies Unit of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
